I AM IN TRIUMPH: PREACHING TO PRIESTS

I am in Triumph

I am in triumph
When, as a man,
I allow myself to be criticised
By the one I call my wife
And acknowledge not only
She isn’t my child
That she is an equal partner!

I am in triumph…
When, as a church priest,
I forget my pristine greatness
And acknowledge publicly
That I, too, am human
And
Not only have I sinned
I am a great sinner!

I am in triumph…
When, as a passenger of a capsizing boat,
I can say loud and clear
That it is the driver’s fault
And with me knowing that just
A word of praise could ensure
My safe return to the shore!

I am in triumph…
When, as an African leader,
Holding all propaganda tools in my hands
And with all the backing in the World
I can still count my shortcomings AND OWN THEM!

I am in triumph…
When, as an European,
Revisiting my arrogant past
I own up to the majority of the errors of history
And bravely acknowledge that part of the underdevelopment and poverty in Africa
As my conscious creation

I am in triumph…
When, as an Arab,
Tied to religious conviction
I can still be steadfast in my proclamation
Of the existence of Israel as a nation
And Jews as a people!

I am in triumph…
When, as a Jew,
Remembering Holocaust
And fully aware of a hostile environment
I can still allow the hoisting of a Palestine flag
Next door to my home

I am in triumph…
When, as a German,
Remembering vividly my blameworthy ancestry
Responsible for the persecution of Jews
I try to avoid xenophobia
As a trait of a past not worth reliving!

I am in triumph…
When I stand for the peaceful
Coexistence of Israel and Palestine
The return to normalcy of Africa
The opposition and plain non-tolerance of terrorism
I am in triumph!
